Models: Behind-the-scenes at a fashion show
I recently had the opportunity to photograph models as they prepared for a live fashion show at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto. I was interested in capturing their candid moments during this time, rather than their performance, so to speak, in the fashion show itself, where they posed on stage or walked down the runway.
As I believe the photos show, I witnessed backstage a mix of chaos, as when one model (assisted by others) quickly changes into a new dress, and calm, as when hairstylists and makeup artists are transforming the models.

My feeling watching the models was one of appreciation and sadness; I was inspired by the patience and strong commitment each of them demonstrated to appear breathtaking but melancholic about the difficult ideals of beauty we still expect female models to embody and, to their credit, the models I photographed met graciously.

I wish to have spoken more to the models, as well as the large team of individuals, from designers to wardrobe specialists, about their experience in the fashion industry, to bring some of their personal stories to these photos.
Hopefully there will be opportunity to do that in the future.
In the meantime, thank you for allowing me to photograph you and see-up-close what goes into making a fashion show a reality.
